Create Your Own Fund for Flexible, Impactful Giving
If you’re looking to make a thoughtful year-end gift—without needing to decide right away which charities to support—consider opening your own fund at the Foundation. It’s a simple and strategic way to give now and plan your granting when the time is right.
Establish a Flexible Fund
A Flexible Fund allows you to make your donation before year-end and receive a full charitable tax receipt for the current year, while giving you time and space to consider your philanthropic priorities.
Benefits include:
- Immediate tax advantages: Receive a charitable tax receipt in the year your contribution is made.
- Time to reflect: Your gift can stay in the Fund until you are ready to direct grants to charitable organizations.
- Support along the way: Our team is here to offer guidance, resources, and local knowledge to help you give with intention and confidence.

2025 Giving Deadlines
Mutual Funds – December 1
Initiate the donation by Wednesday, December 3rd.
Publicly Traded Securities – December 15
We recommend initiating any year-end securities donations by December 15. If you want to donate securities after this date please talk to your advisor.
Open a Fund – December 15
Open a fund now, getting a 2025 tax receipt. Then decide which charities to grant to at a later date, with the Foundation’s assistance. Learn more>>
Electronic Fund Transfer – December 23
Contact Alexandra Pearson, alexandrap@westvanfoundation.ca by December 23rd and she will send you instructions. Include your name (for tax receipt), address, telephone number, amount, where the donation is to go.
Online – December 31
Online donations can be made up until midnight PT on December 31st. Choose one of our 130+ funds, support the Foundation’s operations or choose one of this year’s Give Where You Live partners.
Cheques – December 31
Gifts made by cheque should be arrive at the office by December 31st. If sent by mail, the envelope must be post-marked no later than Dec 31st. We encourage using electronic methods to ensure the donation is received by Dec 31st.
