Scholarships

Our generous donors have established a number of scholarships to support and cultivate our future leaders. The funds are only paid directly to the student’s educational institution.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Brief overview details on each scholarship, can be viewed by clicking the drop down arrows to the left of the name of the scholarship, along with application and reference forms. Applications and references are submitted online and must be fully complete by the deadline date.

References can be submitted with the scholarship application or sent by the referee directly using the School or Community Reference online form available under each scholarship description – these will then be added to the application form submission.

Following online submission, applicants or referees will receive an email confirmation. The Scholarship Committee will only consider complete applications and references that are received by the deadline.

Applications are reviewed by the Scholarship Committee along with Scholarship Fund Holders. The successful recipient’s school is informed directly and recipients are presented with a congratulatory letter at their respective commencement ceremony detailing how to claim the scholarship. 

Please note: the foundation is unable to discuss the status of an application. It is the applicants responsibility to ensure all documents are submitted including references, especially those sent directly by the referee. The foundation will not chase referees for submissions.

2024 SCHOLARSHIPS & AWARDS

This scholarship is awarded to a student who possesses the character and qualities exemplified by Brad Bowles: enthusiasm, superior athletic commitment, demonstrated academic effort, camaraderie and team spirit. This scholarship is awarded to a West Vancouver Secondary student who currently resides on the North Shore (North or West Vancouver) and is enrolling in a post-secondary institution in Canada. All applicants must submit an essay of no more than 500 words describing yourself, how you identify with the personal attributes that were so important in Bradley’s life and your future career aspirations.

Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to outstanding students attending a West Vancouver public secondary school who have demonstrated leadership qualities through community service, have developed skills in a range of areas and will be enrolling in their first year of full-time study in Science or Engineering at a post-secondary institution in Canada. Preference is given to students who reside in the British Properties and are enrolling at a post-secondary institution in BC.

This scholarship is awarded to a student that is enrolling or currently enrolled (Undergrad or Graduate studies) in a post-secondary institution in Canada, either in full-time or part-time studies. The award will recognize one student pursuing studies in the areas of environmental conservation, stewardship, or advanced environmental research. Criteria includes demonstrated commitment to environmental issues in your studies and extracurricular activities, a passions for the outdoors and addressing environmental concerns and demonstrated leadership through active participation in relevant activities. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words) describing personal experience(s) with environmental protection, example(s) of leadership and commitment to sustainable environmental protection, and how receiving this scholarship will impact you.

REFERENCE FORM

This scholarship is awarded to a North Shore public school student who has demonstrated involvement in music and/or drama pursuits and is committed to including music and/or drama as part of their career plan. Students must also show evidence of community service and have a high academic standing. Essay requirement. Financial need of the recipient will also be considered. This scholarship is awarded to a student residing on the North Shore – includes Bowen Island, Lions Bay, North and West Vancouver and is enrolling in a post-secondary institution in Canada or the United States. Preference is given to students enrolling/enrolled in a Canadian institution.

This award is presented to a student who is attending a public high school on the North Shore (North or West Vancouver) and has been accepted to a post-secondary institution focusing on the study of the visual arts.  The applicant will reflect the qualities that Darrin Morrison brought to his stewardship of the West Vancouver Art Museum – an excellent understanding of art and design, an astute, critical mind and a strong vision that brings ideas to reality.  Applicants must submit an essay of no more than 500 words describing yourself, career aspirations, and a portfolio of work submitted to the committee in PDF form. Selection will be made on a combination of academic and artistic merit.

This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding academic student who has demonstrated community service and will be enrolling full-time in Humanities, Social Sciences or General Sciences at a university in Canada. This scholarship is awarded to a student who resides in West Vancouver and who has a minimum average of 86% while enrolled in their final year of high school. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words), describing why you have chosen your course of study and outlining your career aspirations along with also being available for an interview with the Faris Family, if selected as a candidate.

This scholarship will be awarded to a student committed to teaching/education as a career. Preference given to those planning to teach in BC.

This scholarship is awarded to a student that is enrolling or currently enrolled (Undergrad or Graduate studies) in a post-secondary institution in Canada. Students must be pursuing studies in Education (either post-grad or dual stream), have evidence of community service. The award will be given to a high-school graduating student residing on the North Shore – includes Bowen Island, Lions Bay, North and West Vancouver or a post-secondary student who attended a North Shore high-school. Essay requirement. Financial need will also be considered.

APPLICATION FORM POST-SECONDARY STUDENT ONLY

REFERENCE FORM

This scholarship is awarded to a student (Canadian or International), that is enrolling in a post-secondary institution in Canada studying sustainable agriculture and food systems, and who possesses the character and qualities exemplified by Lourdes Llamzon: dedication to family and community, athletic commitment, high academic achievement, and a passion for sustainable and ethical agriculture. The scholarship may be renewable annually for up to 4 years if the applicant is a full-time student and maintains a post-secondary grade point average of 74%. Financial need of the recipient will also be considered. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words) describing yourself and how you identify with the personal attributes that were so important in Lourdes’ life.

This scholarship is awarded to two Capilano Rugby Club players, male or female, who best display the following personal attributes that were so important in Jeremy’s life: 

“Academic Ambition, Community Spirit, and a love for Rugby”

Students must be from the North Shore (North or West Vancouver) and enrolling or enrolled in a recognized post-secondary educational or trade institution in B.C. or Canada. Applicants must submit a hand written essay (not exceeding 500 words) explaining how best you meet the selection criteria.

The awards will be chosen by the Jeremy Dalton Rugby Endowment Committee whose decision will be final.

This scholarship is awarded to a student who has a strong academic record, shows evidence of leadership and volunteerism in school and/or community service and who has demonstrated dedication and achievement within the field of sport or the visual and performing arts. This scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from a public secondary school in West Vancouver School District and proceeding to a post-secondary degree program in Canada. All applicants must submit an essay of no more than 500 words describing the most significant experiences that have contributed to your goals for the future.

Awarded to a student that is enrolling or currently enrolled (Undergrad or Graduate studies) in a post-secondary institution in Canada, either in full-time or part-time studies. This scholarship will support one player who has demonstrated a passion for ice hockey, leadership on and off the ice, and a commitment to community. References as to character and community contribution will be required. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words) addressing addressing how sports have shaped you as a community member, your goals, and plans. Interview requirement if selected as a candidate.

REFERENCE FORM

This scholarship is awarded to a graduating student in the West Vancouver public school system and proceeding to a post-secondary degree program, who demonstrates good citizenship and integrity in their studies and a sincere desire to help others through their active participation in both school and community activities. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words) telling us a bit more about yourself; any significant impacts on your life, how sports and/or music and the arts have shaped you, how you incorporate a love of life and learning whilst contributing to family and community along with your future career aspirations.

The Nigel Miller Memorial Fund provides financial assistance for educational purposes to North Shore Rescue Team Society (NSR) volunteers and immediate family members with an annual scholarship through the West Vancouver Foundation. Applicants must submit a typed personal statement (not exceeding 500 words) describing how your chosen studies will help you pursue your passion.

This scholarship is awarded to a student from the North Shore who demonstrates compassion, adventure, integrity and exuberance for life. This Scholarship is awarded to an applicant between the ages of 16 and 25. All applicants must include a typed 500-word essay explaining how they meet the criteria. The Martin Family takes part in the selection process.

This scholarship is awarded to a student graduating from a public or independent secondary school on the North Shore (North or West Vancouver) and proceeding to a post-secondary program, with a preference given to field of study in either Architecture or Engineering, who has outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated school leadership or community service. Applicants must submit a typed essay (not exceeding 500 words) telling us a bit more about yourself and how this scholarship will impact you. If selected as a candidate, applicants must be available for an interview with Case and Helen Vanee.
