Taking Care of Ourselves Workshop

PLEA Community Services

Grant Program: Community Grants 2022

TCO² workshops are unique, interactive and empowering. Designed and delivered by young adults who use monologues, role-plays and other engaging activities to interact with children aged 10-18, our facilitators involve kids in meaningful discussions about what sexual exploitation is, how to recognize it and how to prevent it from happening to themselves and their peers.

Your grant helped us reach 1,342 children and youth in West Vancouver through 44 free prevention workshops. This was a higher number than anticipated (target was 1,300). These young people received information and practical tools to learn how to keep themselves, and their friends, safe from all forms of sexual exploitation.

This past school year, we received disclosures from young people. Some children shared they had been sent sexual images from people they didn’t know. Others told us they sent a ‘nude’ to a boyfriend or girlfriend, only to later learn the image had been shared with others. All of the young people who disclosed, were given the support and services needed to move forward with their lives.

"We want you to know how grateful we are for your many years of support and for standing with us in our work to keep young people safe from sexual exploitation."
