About

Spectrum Mothers provides one on one in home support for mothers in crisis. We provide this to all mothers who are residents of the North Shore and have children under the age of five. Our mission is prevention rather than intervention, providing early, optimum support to enable moms to work on their own self care. Our goal is to keep families in tact and build healthy communities.

The mandate of Spectrum Mothers is prevention before intervention.  By helping the mother we are saving the child.  Providing support to moms as soon as a crisis is identified we seek to build healthy families and healthy communities.  Isolation, anxiety and depression along with housing and financial insecurity leave families stressed to breaking point and we are able to support them as they work through all of this. Moms are able to move forward in their parenting journey with some returning to work or pursuing further studies and training.  It is always so encouraging to meet these families in the community.

Project Accomplishments

Spectrum Mothers was able to provide on on one in home support to 84 moms and 139 children across the North Shore. Caregivers supported moms one on one in their homes. This can look like sitting and listening, caring for a newborn while mom showers, house cleans, shops, attends counselling or other support groups. They also take toddlers to the park and accompany moms to appointments. Providing early optimum support for mothers in crisis enables them to invest the time they need for self care and healing. The proven outcomes of our program are the stories the mothers share and seeing healthy families contribute to healthy communities.

We are so thankful to the West Vancouver Community Foundation for your grant and support for our organizations. Together we truly are making a difference in the lives of mothers and their families.

"As a single mom, my Caregiver supported me a lot, especially during the times when I became very afraid of tomorrow because of money and tiredness. My Spectrum Caregiver brought positivity, motivation, and helpful resources with every visit. It wasn't just about providing me with time to take a shower and make a grocery run, it was about a completely new life chapter that gave me an incredible belief in myself and understanding that the impossible is possible. My daughter is 14 months old now. She goes to daycare, and she’s an incredibly happy girl with a wonderful life ahead. I am now a full-time event planner for weddings, social, and corporate events, and I’m finishing my Project Management courses. I’m 22, and I’m sincerely grateful to Spectrum for all my new life beginnings."
