Grant Program: Give Where You Live
Funded by: Community donations and matched by the Ian and Rosemary Mottershead Fund
About Backpack Buddies: Backpack Buddies is tackling childhood hunger here in our communities by putting food directly into the hands of those children who need it most. The Backpack Buddies program is now available in 71 BC communities in 350 schools and community organizations for over 6,000 children each week, including 79* children on the North Shore.
Backpack Buddies Program: Backpack Buddies addresses this childhood hunger crisis by filling backpacks every Friday for students in need with meals and snacks to last the weekend. For a cost of only $25, Backpack Buddies sends a child home with a bag full of kid approved meals to last the weekend. $925 feeds a child for the full school year.
Results: In the 2024 Give Where You Live program, community members donated $11,024 and the Ian and Rosemary Mottershead Fund at the Foundation matched $10,000 – providing $21,024. This allowed over 20 children on the North Shore to be fed for 1 year!
*more children are on the waitlist on the North Shore.
Thank you to everyone that donated to Backpack Buddies through our Give Where You Live campaign, and to Ian and Rosemary Mottershead for matching the donations through their fund.
