Are you looking to play Mahjong in West Vancouver? Neighbourhood Small Grants granted money to Grace Wong (project leader), who used it to purchase a few sets of Mahjong tiles, table mats and tile racks as well as a small shopping cart to transport the sets.
Every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday from 10:30am to 12pm there is mahjong being played outside the West Vancouver Community Centres under the white tents. Everyone is welcome to play, whether they know how to play or not. People come and go throughout the allotted time; there is no registration or fees required.
Since its start in June, these mahjong sessions have resulted in many positive comments from participants and those passing by, people say it’s good to see others playing games outdoors and its heartwarming to hear all the noises and laughter from the group. This activity provides a place to drop by and learn something new or sit back and watch while interacting with other community members.
For participants, they enjoy playing mahjong with one another so much they play not only on sunny days but also on windy and rainy days. During these morning sessions participants use their minds, laugh, talk to each other, share stories and create friendships. Not only do participants play mahjong but it also allows a time for them to socialize and increase their connections within the community.
