Godfrey Lynum was a lover of trees, a philanthropist, a volunteer, and a mentor. He was passionate about West Vancouver and lived since childhood in an original Ambleside beach house. As a professional forester, he spent his career in remote areas of BC as well as in Europe and Mexico developing and sharing his expertise. He went on to teach at BCIT and UBC.
In his later years, he enjoyed giving money away to a wide range of charities and causes. He was a great believer in supporting one’s community and volunteered extensively with Block Watch and WV Police Community Services. For 25 years he the drove bus for the WV Seniors Centre and was an early volunteer for the Seymour Demonstration Forest. He regularly practiced the philosophy of “Paying it Forward”, even co-sponsoring an initiative to establish a “Pay it Forward Day” in West Van. In 2022 he received the prestigious Community Commitment Award from the District of West Vancouver.
