Feed Our Seniors
The Feed Our Seniors Fund will provide funding to the West Vancouver Seniors' Activity Centre's Food Security Program for vulnerable seniors. Thanks to the quick response from the community, $100,000 was raised by the Dec 31st target and the Ian and Rosemary Mottershead Fund matched all donations to $100,000. Thanks to the support from so many generous and caring community members, this program now has funding for all of 2021.
The meal program began as the COVID-19 pandemic brought to light a genuine need among this community’s most vulnerable seniors, who lacked the means to access regular meals.
Last year 480+ community members made a donation to the "Feed the Need" program, a program created during the pandemic to ensure our community’s most vulnerable seniors had food security.
"It’s a real lifesaver for me, my whole attitude changed when the meals started to arrive, I felt like a person. It is so important to have a good attitude right now and you are going to make a lot of happy people. I have not had to worry about how I am going to eat. Thank-you."
"There are shouts of joy in the halls when these meals arrive - this is real - this is here, where we live."
Doubling The Impact
The first $100,000 in donations made were matched by fund holders, Ian & Rosemary Mottershead. This resulted in $200,000 in total funding, which will provide meals for vulnerable seniors in West Vancouver for most of 2021.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has surfaced what for us is a surprising fact: our relatively affluent community has rather large pockets of elderly people who do not have enough nourishing food on a regular basis.
Via our Endowment Fund at the West Vancouver Foundation we are offering to match donations up to $100,000, to involve many in our community to support a vital new seniors food program at the West Vancouver Seniors’ Centre.
We are pleased that the West Vancouver Foundation is taking a leadership role in this action because it is a truly benevolent financial organization dedicated to our community."
