Ian and Rosemary Mottershead Release
Local philanthropists excited to continue making a difference through the Ian & Rosemary Mottershead Endowment Fund at the West Vancouver Foundation
West Vancouver, BC – Wednesday 14 February 2019 - The West Vancouver Foundation is delighted to acknowledge the great generosity of Ian & Rosemary Mottershead, who recently established the Ian & Rosemary Mottershead Endowment Fund with a $1 million donation.
“Rosemary and I have reached an age where we think a lot about what is important to us and ways in which we can make a difference. For twenty years, we ran The Charros Foundation – later The Mottershead Foundation – with a focus mostly on North Shore and Vancouver projects. We think that we live in a very special place and we cherish the almost forty years we have lived in West Vancouver.” says Ian Mottershead. “We are currently in the process of shutting down our family foundation to get away from filing and administrative responsibilities. Our philanthropic activities will not decline but the route will change.”
“I have familiarity with community foundations in other locations and am aware of the enormous amount of good they can do. These foundations know their communities, and they know the particular needs of the community to a degree that is not possible for a private individual.” continues Mottershead.
“For some years, we have been observing the West Vancouver Community Foundation (primarily through their website), with growing confidence in their leadership and management. Our objective in establishing the Ian & Rosemary Mottershead Funds at the West Vancouver Foundation is to have them support charitable giving in the areas of interest that previously we would have done ourselves. Also, we hope that we may possibly stimulate further growth in their assets so that they can accomplish even more in our community.”
The Mottershead family have been long-standing donors in the community, supporting selected local, regional, and national initiatives addressing areas such as community wellness, health services, and education.
Adine Mees, CEO West Vancouver Foundation, is honoured that the Mottershead family has chosen to partner with the Foundation with a gift that will have lasting impact on the community and residents of the North Shore. “Ian and Rosemary’s love of community has inspired their philanthropy and we are proud to help them continue to build this legacy.”says Mees. “The West Vancouver Foundation was established forty years ago by local community leaders who like Ian and Rosemary Mottorshead have a strong love for West Vancouver and wanted to ensure residents could easily provide long-term support for meaningful and important areas of need. It is wonderful to have this statement of support as the Foundation begins it’s 40th Anniversary celebration year.”
